Melinda’s Journey – From Dreams of a Better Life to a Nightmare Abroad:
Striving for a brighter future, Melinda applied for a gardening job overseas. The job agent promised a lucrative salary and free accommodation, painting a picture of a promising new beginning. However, upon arrival, Melinda’s hopes were shattered. She was brought to a massage parlor instead of a gardening workplace. She was confined, threatened, and coerced into doing prostitution. Her passport was also confiscated, giving her no opportunity to run away. The life she envisioned soon turned into a nightmare…
A Glimmer of Hope – Reaching Out for Help & Fight for Justice:
Desperate and determined to escape, Melinda managed to contact her relatives. They reached out to us AAT for assistance. Our dedicated volunteers immediately sprang into action, coordinating a plan to bring Melinda safely back to Thailand. Thanks to the tireless efforts of our volunteers and the unwavering support from our community, Melinda was successfully rescued and safely returned home. But our mission didn’t stop there. We continued to stand by her side throughout the legal process, ensuring she receives the justice she deserves and the comprehensive care she needs to rebuild her life. Now the court result has come out – it sentences the broker to a total of 6 years and 9 months in prison, and need to pay Melinda a total amount of 274,566.07 baht (around 7,492 USD) as compensation.
