Last night (13 Oct, 2014), together with a multidisciplinary team, AAT rescued 7 young Laotian girls locked up in an apartment near the 3 brothels disguised as karaoke/massage shops (where they were forced into prostitution). Once discovered, the teenage girls (two 15 years old, two 16 years old, two eighteen years old and one nineteen years old), were frightened and cried most of the time. 3 suspects (2 Thai shop owners and 1 pimp) were also arrested during the raid.
The rescue operation was made after AAT received a report that teenage girls from Lao PDR were forced into prostitution and often threatened and abused by people working in these karaoke/massage parlors in the city of Nonkhai province.
The operation conducted in collaboration with the Department of Investigation (DSI), 13th Field Artillery Battalion, Immigration police, Nongkhai, Muang Nongkhai Provicial Polices, Nonkhai Provincial Social Development and Human Security Office and the media (ch. 8, ch.3 and ch. 7)
Nongkhai is the northernmost province of Isan (the north-eastern) region of Thailand. The northern side of the province also shares a border with Vientiane Province, Vientiane Prefecture and Bolikhamxai of Laos.
The story about this operation also shared by the national news across media platforms, as listed below:
